INTRODUCTION TO SIQUIJOR
Siquijor is a small beautiful island that is usually not high up on the list of places to visit when foreign tourists comes to the Philipines and is definitely not the place you want to visit if you are looking for the same commercialism that Boracay has to offer.
Thankfully, that means it is largely unspoilt and not tainted by the things mass tourism brings, which allows those of us who are lucky enough to visit this wonderful island, the chance to explore and absorb the local ambiance. Siquijor is not a party island, but there are still plenty of places to go and things to see and offers you the chance to chill out and do things at your own pace.
The Spanish who colonized the Philippines for hundreds of years called Siquijor the ”Fire Island” and it is believed that the island rose from the ocean in a massive storm. And if you believe the local stories, it is a place full of mystique and mysteries !!

Well actually that is not strictly true, there is an airport, but it doesn’t cater for the large aircraft of the main carriers and can only handle small planes. Air Juan did offer direct flights to Siquijor, but we are not sure if that is still the case.
Some may say that’s a good thing not to have a large airport as it limits the number of tourists visiting the island. There are plans to expand the airport and work has begun, but it looks like it will be sometime before the work is completed.
Therefore to make the trip by air, the nearest airport in Dumaguete. Dumaguete is only approx 1 hour from Manila and one you get there you need to take transport to port where there are ferries to take you across to the island.
