INTRODUCTION TO SIARGAO
Siargao has gained in popularity over the past few years. From a hidden paradise and a little known surfing location in the Philippines, word has quickly spread and now and it has thrillseekers from all over the world descending on this beautiful location, wanting to sample the waves and experience an island once voted the ‘Most Beautiful Island in Asia’.
The most popular surfing beach is called ‘Cloud 9’ which is a saying that mean something like ‘on top of the world’ which is what the surfers must feel when they are riding those big waves. We are not surfers ourselves, but we have been told that it has a good reputation for great ‘tube’ waves.
Siargao is also well known for having some of the most iconic instagram spots in the world. The coconut palm road is always on our feed, and people sitting in front of the endless sea of coconut trees is a sight to behold. Another we see a lot of is the rope swing in Maasin Secret River and although we are not a big fan of these ‘staged’ instagram posts, they always get a lot of likes.

Until a few years ago it was a bit harder to get to Siargao, as the nearest airport was on nearby Surigao Island, meaning that after landing in Surigao a 2+ hour ferry ride was needed to get you to your destination.
However in 2017 Sayak Airport opened on the West Coast of Siargao accepting domstic flights from Manila, Clark, Davao and Cebu, giving easier access to the thousands of visitors it get each year.
On reaching the airport there are plenty of vans and tricycles ready and willing to take you to the main tourist destinations
